The Gold PVD Heirloom Warranty

12 months. Ocean included.

All jewelry made of Gold PVD come with a 12-month warranty. Our PVD coated stainless steel is a gold layer bonded to surgical steel in a vacuum chamber, not plated on top of it. It's built to be worn, not stored. So we've built a warranty to cover the things that actually happen to jewelry people don't take off.

What's covered

For 12 months from the date of delivery, on every PVD or Stainless steel in the heirloom line.

  • Coating wear-through to the base metal, on any surface other than the inside of ring bands and the interior of clasps, those are constant-friction contact points where gradual thinning is expected.
  • Structural failure — clasps, hinges, joints, and solder failing under normal wear
  • Saltwater and shower wear. Explicitly included. Swim in it, shower in it, sweat in it. If the finish gives out because you actually wore it, that's on us. Chlorine or other chemical pools and/or hot tubs are not covered.

What's not covered

  • Surface scratches and normal patina/color brightness.
  • Enamel loss or chips. The enamel is a paint, not metal, and needs to be taken care of to remain over time.
  • Impact or crushing damage: drops, closing a door on it, gym plates, using it for anything else than wear that may cause damage, etc.
  • Chlorine and hot tubs. Chlorine is an oxidizing agent: it attacks the bond between the gold layer and the steel underneath, and it weakens solder joints. Heat accelerates both. A hot tub combines high water temperature, chlorine concentrations well above a swimming pool's, and long soaks — which is why it's the one environment that can produce exactly the coating failure and clasp failure this warranty otherwise covers. Ten minutes in a hot tub is harder on a piece than a week in the ocean.
  • Changes, chipping, or any damages caused by bleach, oils, perfumes, harsh cleaners
  • Alteration, resizing, or repair by anyone other than Ka 'Ohana Jewelry
  • Loss or theft

Your warranty starts the day your piece arrives. There's nothing to activate.

How to file a claim

  1. Email aloha@kaohanajewelry.com with your order number and 3–4 clear photos
  2. Tell us roughly when it started and how you wear the piece
  3. We respond within 2 business days with either follow up questions or shipping instructions (if necessary)

The remedy: where re-coating will genuinely restore the piece, we'll do that. Otherwise we remake it,  one remake per piece, expedited production, and the original comes back to us.

If your style has been discontinued by the time you claim, you don't lose the remake. We'll offer a style replacement remake: a current piece of the same category and equal value, made to order on the same expedited timeline. We'll confirm the replacement style with you before anything goes into production.

Living with our Heirloom

Here are a few things that genuinely shorten a coating's life:

  • Rinse and dry after the ocean or the pool. Salt and chlorine left sitting on the surface do more damage than the swim itself. Saltwater is fairly gentle on the coating and it mostly leaves mineral deposits that dull the finish if you let them dry on. Chlorine is the more aggressive of the two and should be avoided.
  • Skip the hot tub. Hot, heavily chlorinated water is the single worst thing for a bonded coating. It's the one exclusion we're strict about, and it's the reason we're comfortable covering everything else.
  • Keep it away from bleach and household cleaners. Take it off before you scrub anything
  • Store pieces so they aren't grinding against each other. Wear with care if stacking multiple pieces of jewelry.
  • General scratching and hitting against hard or uneven surfaces. While the new formula is much stronger than the last, this is something to keep in mind with any type of jewelry.
  • Clean with warm water, mild soap, and a soft cloth. No ultrasonic machines, no polishing compounds, no jewelry dips.

This warranty applies to the original purchaser and is not transferable. It gives you specific legal rights; you may have other rights that vary by state or country, and nothing here limits them. Questions: aloha@kaohanajewelry.com
